I have noticed that I sometimes expect my teens to develop faster (while at the same time wanting to freeze time)! To be more specific, I think I expect my teens’ development to somehow be linear and that is simply not how humans develop. I notice it in my frustration that they didn’t handle something the way they said they would or that they continue to cut things too close on things like getting to school on time.

It’s partly my own anxiety and perfectionism rearing its head but I think it’s also the general cultural prioritization of “fast and easy” seeping into my expectations of how life and we all will function. And you just can’t rush human development.

Grace, acceptance, patience. I’ll be asking God to help me there!

The hardest thing in this day and age is to slow down. AI is pushing us to go at unsustainable speeds. I also am learning to try to find space to breathe and get my head above the madness to look down on all that I’m working on to figure out what matters. This article is a really good reflection of the journey I suspect many of us are on. Thanks for sharing.
